Jeff MartinThe Stanton Gallery has been designed as an evolving showpiece that will make the Museum the leading collection and tribute place for all memories of Stanton Ironworks and includes personal memories of workers and their families, donated artefacts and loans from the community.
There will be photographic presentations which will take place at 11am and 2pm and talks throughout the day, while the official opening will take place at 1pm with representatives from Saint Gobain, which now owns the Stanton site. Anyone who worked at Stanton or is interested in the history of the Ironworks is urged to go along and enjoy the occasion.
Councillor Mike Wallis, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Culture and Leisure, said: “Stanton Ironworks was a part of the working life of many, many families across Erewash and we are delighted to open this gallery to preserve the memory of its heyday and as a tribute to our industrial heritage.
“Stanton touched the lives of not only its employees but of each and every one of us, just look at the lamp posts and grates on our highways, for example, and you will see the name Stanton and Staveley.
“This gallery holds some fascinating memories and we are proud to say that we intend it to become the central collection point of ‘everything Stanton’. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Open Day.”
