Local Branch Of Royal British Legion In Danger Of Closure
The Stanton-by-Dale branch of the Royal British Legion is in danger of closure. One of the smallest groups in the country, the branch has just 15 members but all are hoping that newcomers will join to help keep the valuable work going. Ten villagers were killed during the two World Wars and a total of eight Canadian serviceman also died locally when their Stirling bomber crashed near Grove Farm. They are remembered by local people at the annual remembrance day service staged in the village. New members are not required to be former servicemen. A secretary and treasurer are roles which particularly need filling.
