Jeff MartinErewash Council for Voluntary Services is seeking volunteers to drive people to local healthcare facilities in the borough. Car and minibus drivers are being sought to take elderly and disabled people to hospital and doctors' surgeries. Training will be provided, and a mileage rate will be paid too.
A new website has been launched to promote all the arts events, venues, artists and arts clubs and societies across Derbyshire. The artsderbyshire website is a free resource that gives the public the chance to find out more about the arts in the county – while it is also a great information and support site for people working or wanting to work in the arts and creative sector.
Erewash Borough Council provide a monthly surgery for young people needing advice on housing issues.
Victims of domestic violence in the borough are now able to draw on the support of a director for professional help and support. Advice and details of support organisations are contained in the 40-page booklet which has been funded by the County Council and the Erewash Domestic Abuse Support Service.
Erewash residents can now recycle commonly used drinks cartons at special recycling sites across the Borough, as the Council trials a new Tetra Pak recycling scheme. Each year, UK beverage carton manufacturers produce approximately 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice, sauces and other liquid foods/drinks. This equates to around 2.3kg of cartons per household which could be recycled instead of thrown in the rubbish bin.
Erewash Borough Council has introduced a new service to its website, that will help people with reading difficulties and sight impairments to access information and services. Visitors to the council’s website at www.erewash.gov.uk can now listen to the written content using a free 'speech enabling' tool called Browsealoud - free software that anyone can download onto their personal computer.
Erewash Community Safety Partnership has issued a new booklet listing activities available to young people locally. The booklet was launched at a recent meeting of the Youth Forum and aims to keep bored youngsters occupied and out of trouble. Over 85 activities are listed in the booklet, available to the very young through to people who are 19 years of age.
Erewash Community Safety Partnership has a new plan! The plan runs from 2008 – 2011 and sets out how the partnership will tackle issues raised. Priorities include anti-social behaviour (including criminal damage), assault with injury (including alcohol related violent crime), domestic abuse and serious acquisitive crime (including domestic burglary and vehicle crime). This will help the Partnership to work to reduce crime and disorder and improve the quality of local life.
