German Brass Band visit to Ockbrook for ‘Summer on the Settlement’

The Ockbrook Moravian village is to welcome a German brass essemble for an event titled ‘Summer on the Settlement’.

A day of heritage, food and music will take place on on Saturday 8th August, 2026, from 10:00am.

For this event, the Moravian congregation will welcome very special guests, ‘Moravian Brass’, a band from Germany, who will be performing a wide range of popular, classical and sacred music, in the church, at 4:30pm.

There will be a second chance to hear the band during the church’s morning service, at 11:00am on August 9th.

The Moravian church, a Protestant denomination founded in the 15th century, in what is now the Czech Republic, has a long tradition of brass band music, going back over three hundred years.

Although still regularly practised in Continental Europe and the United States, the visit will be a rare opportunity to witness this great custom in a British church.

In addition to music, exhibitions and costumed guides will tell the story of the church and the picturesque 6-acre 18th century Ockbrook Moravian Settlement, sometimes referred to as one of Derbyshire’s ‘best kept secrets’, where early members of the congregation formed a self- contained community, complete with a school and even an inn.

Refreshments will be available and there will also be an opportunity to sample traditional Moravian baked goods.

Admission is free for all events, except for an evening meal, in the Lecture Hall and Garden, to thank the band, which is already fully booked.

German born church minister, the Rt. Rev Joachim Kreusel is looking forward to the event. He said: “Enjoy the music of Moravian Brass, immerse yourself in our rich heritage and indulge in good food and laughter. It’s all irresistible!”
