Published on: Friday, 15th March 2019

Older motorists in Derbyshire are being invited to take advantage of training sessions aimed at keeping them safer for longer behind the wheel.

Derbyshire County Council is offering free Driving Safer for Longer classroom-based information sessions which offer drivers aged 65 plus the chance to update their driving knowledge.

Places are available on upcoming sessions lasting 90 minutes. They cover:

  • eyesight
  • hearing
  • seatbelts
  • drink driving
  • hazard perception
  • vehicle adaptations
  • driving assessments

Councillor Simon Spencer, Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Highways, Transport and Infrastructure, said: “Road safety remains a top priority for us and we are committed to investing in initiatives for all types of road users and age groups. This includes older motorists to help them maintain their independence by keeping them safe on our roads for longer.”

As well as others across the county, there will be a session on Saturday 6th July from 10:30am to 12noon at The Long Eaton School.

To book a place email drivingsafer.forlonger(at)derbyshire.gov.uk, (changing the (at) for @ before sending your message) providing personal details, preferred training date and location or telephone 01629 538060.
