Erewash MP Maggie Throup has taken to social media to address posts on line questioning her lack of attendance at a meeting about Home Office Accommodation Centres which took place on Tuesday 1st November at Sandiacre Memorial Hall.

Ms Throup issued a statement online to address comments, which she said had also been posted on the internet, stating that she neither knew about or was invited and added that she refuted many of things attributed to her by what she described as a minority of people who she said were "determined to whip up trouble for purely political purposes, rather than solving the issue."

She also moved to clarify her part in the matter which is being widely discussed and reported upon and said: "What is true, is that I was in Parliament last night trying to secure an urgent meeting with the Home Secretary to demand that these accommodation centres close down ASAP.

"I am also investigating what more Erewash Borough Council and Derbyshire County Council, as statutory consultees, can do to bring this matter to a swift conclusion, including the possibility of legal action.

"In addition, I have personally written to all residents living in the vicinity of Bostocks Lane with full details of my actions, which should be received by the end of the week.

"Finally, it is vital that ALL instances of criminal activity, including anti-social behaviour, intimidation and sexual harassment should be immediately reported to the Police on either 101 or 999."
