BREAKING: COVID-19 Tier-2 alert level - Erewash - a statement from Erewash MP Maggie Throup

Published on: Thursday, 15th October 2020

In the wake of the announcement from Health Secretary Matt Hancock of 15th October stating that Erewash is to enter into a Tier-2 lockdown as of Saturday 17th October at 0001, borough MP Maggie Throup released the following statement:

“Following the Statement made by The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to the House of Commons on Thursday 15th October 2020, the COVID Alert Level for Erewash will rise from ‘medium’ to ‘high’ as of Saturday 17th October 2020 at 12:01am.

The regulations that apply to areas classified as COVID Alert Level ‘high’ can be viewed at https://www.gov.uk/guidance/local-covid-alert-level-high.

“Please note that the regulations continue to apply to a person even if they subsequently travel outside of the area where they live.  For example, should a person living in an area classified as ‘high’, travel to an area classified as ‘medium’, they should continue to abide by the ‘high’ regulations.

“I want to assure residents that this is not a return to the full lockdown and the Government is committed to ensuring that schools and colleges stay open, as well as businesses that are operating in a COVID-secure way.

“I know that these restrictions are onerous, but as we approach the winter months, it is vital that we all remember the basics of washing our hands, covering our faces, observe social distancing and follow the rules, so that together we can control the virus and protect each other.”
