Business PPE campaign moves into Derbyshire

Published on: Friday, 17th April 2020

A campaign encouraging local businesses to donate spare personal protective equipment (PPE) to support NHS and key service workers dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic has been expanded into Derbyshire.

The campaign, spearheaded by Martin Rigley MBE, Managing Director of Lindhurst Engineering Ltd in Sutton in Ashfield, originally ran in the Ashfield and Mansfield areas, where, in less than two weeks, it received over 15,000 items of PPE.

As Campaign Co-ordinator Malcolm Healey said: “We’re so pleased with the response from businesses in Mansfield and Ashfield, that we’ve now expanded the project into Derbyshire.  If we can generate that much support in one local area, the potential to do so much more across Derbyshire is huge! This is a way in which local businesses can help front line services in Derbyshire, at a time of crisis.  We’re now asking all businesses in the county to support our campaign by donating any PPE they can spare”

In particular, the campaign is seeking donations of:

  • Fluid resistant masks including, although not exclusively, FFP2 or FFP3 rated (the rating is marked on each mask).
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Visors or goggles
  • Disposable aprons or overalls
  • Sanitising gel

Ian Harpham, Manufacturing Director at Pektron Ltd in Derby, which is hosting a drop off centre and has donated 600 high grade face masks said. "I'm delighted to get involved in this excellent project; we’ve had to furlough a number of employees and have some spare PPE at present, so the least we could do was donate this to those on the front line, saving lives.  We’re keen to support such a worthwhile cause and urge other businesses to do the same".

To make a donation, please e-mail ppe4nhs @ hotmail.com to arrange a drop off time.
