Erewash MP Maggie Throup has welcomed the provisional announcement by the Department for Education that schools across Erewash are set to receive a total of £66,494,333.00 next year.

This would represent an average increase in the per pupil funding of 3.5 per cent, meaning that every local primary school would receive at least £4,644.00 per pupil and every local secondary school would receive at least £6,010.00 per pupil for the 2022/23 school year.

The additional funding is part of the Government’s plan to invest £14.4 billion in education over three years, representing the largest cash boost to school funding in a decade.

Commenting on the announcement, Maggie said: “One of the privileges of representing Erewash as your Member of Parliament is the opportunity it gives me to go into our amazing schools to see first-hand the fantastic work being done by teachers and support staff to ensure every child has the very best start in life.

“This announcement will help to level-up education funding across our country, including here in Erewash, giving all young people the same opportunities to succeed, regardless of where they grow up or go to school.”

In his letter to Maggie confirming the new investment, The Secretary of State for Education, The Rt. Hon. Gavin Williamson CBE MP said: “Today we are delivering the final year of that three-year funding commitment.  We have published provisional school and high needs funding allocations for 2022-23, helping schools to plan their future funding.

“I will continue working with you and teachers up and down the country to deliver this Government’s unwavering commitment to build a world class education system, and to support schools to recover from the impact of the pandemic.”
