Christmas tree recycling scheme raises £17k for local hospice

An annual Christmas tree recycling scheme has raised a record £17,000 for leading adult hospice, Treetops Hospice Care.

Over 1,000 trees have been collected from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire in the Treetops Treecycling scheme, now in its fifth year.  Collections were made in return for a donation towards the hospice which provides nursing care and emotional support for adults with life limiting conditions, those who’ve been bereaved, and their families.

This has been the most successful Treecycling year so far, as Laura McWha, Business Relationships Manager explained:  “Every year the number of trees we collect - and the donations we receive - goes up and this has been our best year yet.  This year, we were able to expand the postcode collection so even more households could benefit from having their tired and worn-out Christmas trees removed and recycled.

“We’ve had wonderful support from the local business community to make this such a success.

“Alongside our own Treetops minibus and furniture van going out and about, businesses have all lent us their vans and encouraged their staff to volunteer.   We really couldn’t do this without everyone’s help.”

Treetops has continued to provide its services during the pandemic, adapting them to ensure care is still available for vulnerable patients.  But the hospice still faces future loss of income, Laura continues: “During the national lockdowns, we have to close all our retail shops and cancel major fundraising events, which has a big impact on us financially.

“We want to be there for our patients when they need us the most and it’s through schemes like Treecycling that we can continue to provide end of life care in the local community.

“We want to say a huge thanks to everyone who’s been involved in Treecycling this year and we’re looking forward to an even bigger and more successful scheme in 2022!”

Treetops is doing all it can to continue to support those in most need.  The hospice welcomes donations to their Treetops COVID-19 Appeal to ensure the future of the hospice and its services.  Donations can be made at
