CIC bid for volunteers to support young people in gardening project

A local community interest company is seeking volunteers to help mentor young teenagers who have been referred to their project.

Parkside High CIC work with young people aged 13-16 who come from a range of backgrounds and find it difficult to engage in mainstream education.  The project is based at an Allotment - Garden 61 - in Cotmanhay.

A statement from the organisation said that their success with those involved was dependent on the strong commitment of volunteers acting as youth support workers, adding that volunteers were recruited due to the likelihood of gathering a diverse range of backgrounds and experience that children can relate to, but hoped that people would come forward in order to make a difference to a child's life.

Parkside High is aiming to recruit those with a gardening or horticultural background but is also working to support the development of a programme focusing on basic construction skills so is seeking persons with relevant experience.

Officials recognise that people can benefit from volunteering as it gives them experience to pursue a career in a similar field.  No experience is necessary, just a desire to help and support children and young people who need extra encouragement and attention.  In return, Parkside High will offier ongoing training and support.

Volunteers who are patient, flexible and have a good sense of humour are particularly being welcomed.  To find out more and apply, visit this link.
