Erewash Sound has saved borough parents and competition winners a bundle of cash during the Summer holidays as part of its annual Summer on-air campaign.

'Summer Kidz' has been running annually on the radio station for a number of years and whilst the campaign has always been designed to try and save some money for parents in keeping their children entertained during the Summer holiday through the provision of details of local events for all the family, and to keep children as safe as possible with details of local safety initiatives, the effects of the recent hot weather and the ever present cost-of-living crisis has given the 2022 campaign a different perspective.

A range of safety advice has included a focus on the dangers of swimming in lakes and rivers, and of the use of naked flames, particularly with the dangers during and after the sustained heatwave, however there has been a lighter, brighter side to the campaign.

Over the course of the five week school break and ahead of the new term, Erewash Sound has been offering a range of free-to-enter competitions to win entrance tickets for great family days out at locations such as Butlins Skegness, Matlock Farm Park, The Heights of Abraham in Matlock Bath, the Darley Park Concert in Derby, and the MFA Bowl in Ilkeston.

When added together, the value of the prizes that were available this year totalled over £500.

Press and publicity spokesperson Ian Perry said: "As a genuinely local radio station, Erewash Sound always prides itself on the extent to which local news and information is provided, and, as well as the prominence of encouraging children to not allow themselves to be tempted into venturing into open water to cool off, and to act responsibly with anything that could cause a fire, we always see it as immensely important to help parents cut the cost of keeping the kids entertained by providing details of local low-cost or even free-to-attend family events.

"With the very real, sustained and seemingly ever-worsening cost-of-living crisis at the moment, that information took on a whole new level of meaning and importance, and it was therefore great to be able to help cut costs during the Summer holidays for our lucky winners who won such great family prizes.  As well as thanking those who provided the prizes this year, and everyone who entered our competitions, we'd like to offer our sincere congratulations to our Summer Kidz 2022 winners.  We hope they have a great time with their respective prizes.   We're already looking forward to the return of our popular on-air campaign for Summer 2023!"
