Residents young and old are being invited to sign up and experience working on an election day by joining the Erewash team for the local elections on Thursday 4th May.
The Election Day will see voters go to the ballot box to elect councillors to the 47 seats on Erewash Borough Council.
Erewash Borough Council organises polling day within Erewash and is appealing for residents to help staff the various paid roles that are available at polling stations and at the count venue:
- Presiding Officers
- Poll Clerks
- Verification Assistants
- Count Assistants
- Postal Vote Assistants
Staff must be over the age of 18 to work in a Polling Station, but only 16 or over to work as a count or postal vote assistant – making those roles an ideal opportunity for students to earn some extra money.
Councillor Carol Hart, Leader of Erewash Borough Council, said: “People of all ages can work at the upcoming elections and see the process first-hand. There are residents in Erewash who work at the elections every year and find it an interesting experience. I would encourage anyone curious about working at the election to head to the council’s website to find out more, or contact our election team.”
Polling Station staff will be required to be familiar with new requirements for voters to produce photo ID in order to vote; and training for this will be given to all successful applicants.
