Garden waste collections continue

A further four weeks of garden waste collections in Erewash have been confirmed.

Brown bins are being emptied alongside recyclable waste in the Long Eaton and south area this week (from Monday 8 June) and will be collected in the Ilkeston and north area next week, from Monday 15 June, with repeat collections from 22 and 29 June.

Free garden waste collections resumed on 11 May for an initial four-week period after being suspended at the start of the coronavirus lockdown.  Erewash Borough Council has now confirmed that collections will continue but the situation will be reviewed again in four weeks’ time.

Councillor Garry Hickton, Erewash Borough Council’s Lead Member for Environment, said: “This is the busiest time of the year for gardeners so we know how much they appreciate our brown bin collections and that is why our team and our crews are working to full capacity to keep them going.

“With government guidelines still in place and the coronavirus still having an impact, there is a cost to this but we will do our best and will review the situation after the next four weeks.  We would all like to send out a thank you for the continued support residents are showing for our refuse crews.”
