Erewash MP Maggie Throup has received the good news that none of the seven Derbyshire County Council Care Homes previously ear-marked for closure will now close until there is another one to replace each of them.

Maggie had led an active campaign to save Ladycross House Care Home in Sandiacre when it was threatened with closure earlier this year.

Maggie said: “This is a much welcome victory for common sense, and I am delighted for all the residents, their relatives and staff at Ladycross House.  This good news follows my victory in keeping Hazelwood Care Home in Cotmanhay open until new facilities are built nearby.

“One of my biggest concerns was one of alternative provision for Ladycross, an issue I raised in my response to the consultation, as I know from personal experience just how important it is for elderly people to stay in familiar surroundings once they have had to move from their home due to fragility.

“I am so pleased with the outcome of the local campaign and I am truly thankful to all of my constituents who either signed my petition or sent in their own response to the consultation.

“Over the coming months I pledge to work with Derbyshire County Council and local residents to identify a location for the new facilities for Ladycross House in keeping with what our elderly folk deserve.”
