Published on: Sunday, 19th January 2020

A new exhibition which celebrates the Midlands Heavy and Light cavalry regiments, from the Cold War to the present day, will open in February at Erewash Museum.  The exhibition will feature uniforms, artefacts and artists’ impressions of the 9th/12th regiments and other Lancers.

An official opening by the Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Sue Beardsley, will take place on Friday 31 January at 2pm.  Members of the British Royal Legion, Friends of the Museum and the Ilkeston History Society will be in attendance as well as representatives of the Lancers regiments.

The exhibition was created from the personal collection of Tony Wilson, of Ilkeston, an army veteran who served with the 9th/12th Royal Lancers.  It will also showcase original works and prints by war artist Mick Graham Art.

These regiments have a fascinating and colourful modern history. Discover more about the Royal Lancers, the ‘Queen Elizabeths’ Own,’ and the regiments that formed them, the 9th, 12th, 17th/21st, the 16th/5th Lancers.

The exhibition will run from Saturday 1 February until Wednesday April 8 2020.
