Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, has welcomed the news that there are 43% more doctors, nurses and other patient care staff working in general practice in Erewash compared to 2019.

The Plan for Patients set out the Government’s commitment to improving general practice and using transparent data to inform and empower patients. A modelling approach has enabled estimates of staff at the level of parliamentary constituencies to be given for the first time.

Data published by the Government shows the number of Full Time Equivalent doctors, nurses and other direct patient care staff in general practice in September 2019 and September 2022, and the change over that period, for every constituency in England.

Giving comment, Maggie said: “The figures provided by the Department of Health and Social Care are very encouraging. It is extremely important that we provide support for General Practices. It also shows that this Government is committed to improving the NHS at every level, unlike Labour, who do not have a plan and encourage our vital healthcare practitioners to go on strike.”

Maggie added: “This is excellent news and will certainly help Erewash residents get the right healthcare in the right place.”
