New financial support for businesses (January 2021 lockdown)

Published on: Tuesday, 5th January 2021

Following the increased national restrictions announced on 4th January by the Prime Minister, the Government are providing further financial business support including new one-off lockdown grants worth £4.6 billion

Retail, hospitality and leisure businesses who have been forced to close can claim for a one-off grant up to the value of £9,000 per property.  The one-off additional grant that each business premise can receive, depends on their rateable value:

  • Businesses with a rateable value of £51,000 or above - £9,000
  • Businesses with a rateable value between £15,000 and £51,000 - £6,000
  • Businesses with a rateable value of £15,000 and below - £4,000

This one-off grant is in addition to the existing monthly closed grants of up to £3,000 per month, that businesses continue to be eligible for.  Businesses can receive multiple grants as they are eligible on a per premises basis.  Local authorities will receive funding for these new one-off grants, next week, and will be encouraged to make payments to businesses as soon as possible.

Additional discretionary funding of £549 million will also be provided to all local authorities to support local impacted businesses.  Click here to check if you are eligible for any of the new financial support (GOV.UK)
