Ockbrook Redhill W.I report for November 2018

Published on: Wednesday, 5th December 2018

Erewash Sound is pleased to present the latest round up of news from the Ockbrook Redhill branch of the WI.  Susan Maclaine reports.

At our November meeting Barry Colenso, Master Chocolatier, talked about his career highlight.  In 2011 he was delighted to be invited by the McVities Cake Company to help them design and produce the chocolate wedding cake for Prince William and Catherine.  He carefully handcrafted the chocolate leaves, fronds and white chocolate dahlia flowers, each took over six hours to create.  "The pressure was incredible" Barry remembers, "All of the elements were made and transported separately, and once at the Palace everything needed to be reassembled. It was such a huge project that the Queen, the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry all paid us a visit’"

Steph Club led our Christmas themed Produce meeting.  She demonstrated how to make 3D edible cake decorations from fondant icing.  It was great fun and the results were amazing.

In recognition of their prize winning exhibits at the County Show some of our members went to the DFWI Presentation Evening to receive their trophies and Best in Show Chairman’s Rose Bowl.

The Produce Meeting sorted out the Xmas cake decorations so now all we needed was to make something to display in our homes over the festive season.  Wenda Webb came up trumps and showed us how to make these lovely decorations.  The Craft meeting was attended by 11 members and 2 guests.

Seasons Greetings to everyone from Ockbrook Redhill WI. Our next meeting is on 14th January at 7:30pm at the Lecture Hall, Moravian Settlement with a chance to 'meet the members'.
