Presenter Anjelica Dabbs presents Tracey Parker with the cheque

A cheque has been presented to a representative of an Ilkeston charity after a coffee morning was held at the Erewash Sound Media Centre recently.

Proceeds from the event, which ran from 10am to 12noon on 6th April at The Media Centre in Cotmanhay, will go to Ben's Den - a dedicated children's charity based in Ilkeston and set up in memory of Ben Parker, who sadly passed away in 2003 following a battle with leukaemia.

The aim of the charity is to support the families of children fighting leukaemia or cancer, by gifting them a free holiday and allowing them to spend much needed, quality family together away from the overwhelming hospital environment.

The charity was set up by Ben’s parents in March 2004. Since then, they have held many fundraising events and now have three fully equipped caravans, named ‘Ben’s Den 1, ‘Ben’s Den 2’and Ben’s Den 3, at the Haven holiday site in Mablethorpe.

The Erewash Sound team were kept busy keeping the kettle on the boil, but even competed in an internal bake off competition in advance of the event, before serving slices of those and other goodies to members of the public and invited guests.   Drinks were served in Erewash Sound mugs!

As well as the coffee morning held in the Media Centre training room, there were activities and story telling for children plus a rare chance to have a look around the studios, both live and off-air, including the newly refurbished training studio 1 which was made possible following a £10,000 grant from the DHL UK Foundation.

A total of £87 was raised on the day, although the total made three figures through onward cake sales.  Ben's mum Tracey Parker received a cheque from radio station presenter and one of the event organisers Anjelica Dabbs at a presentation ceremony held recently at the Media Centre in Cotmanhay, Ilkeston.

Thank you to everyone who supported the event!  We hope you enjoyed it and we look forward to doing something similar again very soon.
