Erewash residents can now recycle commonly used drinks cartons at special recycling sites across the Borough, as the Council trials a new Tetra Pak recycling scheme. Each year, UK beverage carton manufacturers produce approximately 55,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons for milk, juice, sauces and other liquid foods/drinks. This equates to around 2.3kg of cartons per household which could be recycled instead of thrown in the rubbish bin.

Carton collection points have now been set up at key Recycling Centres, which can be found at the following sites:

  • West Park Leisure Centre, Wilsthorpe Road, Long Eaton;
  • Albion Centre, off Station Rd/Bath Street, Ilkeston;
  • ASDA Recycling Site (near Petrol Station), Midland Street, Long Eaton;
  • Tesco Recycling Site, Rutland Street, Ilkeston; and
  • Gordon Lacey Church Hall Car Park, Victoria Avenue, Ockbrook.

Cartons should not be placed in household collection bags. This new initiative will help the Council to boost its already exceptional recycling rates. EBC is already the best recycler in Derbyshire and in the top 9% in the country.
