Shipley Woodside Community Garden celebrates 1 Year Anniversary

Published on: Tuesday, 8th September 2020

This month community group, Shipley Eco-Action Group (SEAG) in Shipley, Derbyshire and their supporters are celebrating the first year anniversary of their major project, Shipley Woodside Community Garden at Hassock Lane South in Shipley, Derbyshire.

SEAG acquired a 7.5 year rolling lease from Shipley Parish Council to transform the 1.5 acre disused field.  2020 has been such a difficult year for many of us but in the main, with limited numbers and safety precautions in place, volunteering continued at the Community Garden and in a year volunteers have transformed the field into a beautiful and productive Community Garden, which has been enjoyed by many local residents, especially during the past couple of months as more people have been outside and looking for ways of socially interacting in a safe way.

The group had hoped to hold a celebratory event at the Garden but decided it was not safe to do so at the moment, however the group wanted to do something to share the transformation and to say thank you to all the support from the volunteers, members of the immediate and wider community, businesses and organisations and Shipley Parish Council.    So member Lynsey Beaumont has prepared a special edition Newsletter and Graham Kearton a video, with music played and composed by Andy King, one of the group's supporters all the way down in Wiltshire.

These really show what can be achieved when a group of people share a vision and passion and the community comes together in support and both can be found by following this link.

The Garden is currently open to visitors and volunteers every Saturday 10 am-1 pm and every Wednesday 1 pm-4 pm.
