South East Derbyshire Music Centre in appeal for virtual members

Published on: Monday, 9th November 2020

A charity providing a space for young people in Erewash and the Amber Valley has issued an appeal for musicians and singers to sign up and take part from home during lockdown.

The South East Derbyshire Music Centre has faced its own challenges due to the pandemic and usually has around 200 members taking part in Saturday morning activities, ranging from orchestras, chamber ensembles and guitar fusion groups to choirs and for people of all musical ability, but chair of the centre, Luke Stanley said that the organisation was more than just providing music, providing what he described as a fun space for young people to be together and make friends.

Despite the challenges of lockdown, a Virtual Concert was still provided, showcasing performances, and culminating in a version of 'Sing' which can be seen on-line.

Luke said: "We've now been able to re-start our efforts and have turned to virtual methods to once again, make music and are hoping to create another virtual Christmas Concert later in the year but this means that we're looking for more people to join our groups."

Any musical ability is welcome, with access to up to three groups for one membership fee, and weekly rehearsals with professional musicians.   Mention this item upon sign up as a new member and get two weeks membership free.
