The Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Sue Beardsley, is putting her best foot forward to take on a fundraising challenge for the Stroke Association, one of her chosen charities for this year.
Councillor Beardsley has signed up for the charity’s ‘Stride for Stroke’ event to walk 1.2 million steps over 120 days, which works out at 10,000 steps a day for 120 days.
Now the Mayor is hoping other Erewash residents will join her by signing up for the challenge to honour and support the 1.2 million stroke survivors in the UK.
Mayor of Erewash, Councillor Sue Beardsley, said: “The Stroke Association is a charity that is very close to my heart so I am happy to take on this challenge, which will raise vital funds to help rebuild the lives of those who have suffered a stroke. I hope other residents will join me and take part if they are able – maybe those who are a stroke survivor or those who can do it in memory of a loved one or in support of someone affected by a stroke. As well as raising money for charity, it is also a great way to keep fit and healthy.”
As well as the ‘Stride for Stroke’ fundraiser, the charity is also running other virtual challenges including cycling and quizzes.

Councillor Beardsley is serving a second term as Mayor after Erewash Borough Council’s mayor-making ceremony and annual meeting had to be cancelled in May during the coronavirus lockdown. As well as the Stroke Association, the Mayor is also supporting Treetops Hospice in Risley.
