A group of scouts raised thousands of pounds for charity after taking part in a gruelling pentathlon challenge.

The scouts from 10th Ilkeston Scout Group, which is based in Stanley Common, raised £3,622.84 for Cancer Research UK.

There were 19 scouts and three scout leaders who completed the pentathlon - which included a 20km bike ride along High Peak Trail at Middleton Top, a 5km run, an hour of fencing, a 0.5km swim and finished by climbing 1000ft on the climbing wall.

The scouts, all aged between 10 and 14, trained hard for the event and were delighted with how much the group raised for Cancer Research UK.

Scout leader Steve Bowmer said: "Well done to all the scouts who took part in the pentathlon.  We are very proud of what they achieved and they should all be very proud of themselves too.  We raised lots of money for Cancer Research UK, which I know will be put to good use.  Thank you also to all the parents who helped us raise the money and supported this event."
