Risley-based Treetops Hospice has launched a new drop-in service for people affected by serious illness or bereavement.

Hospice officials will base themselves at the Derby Cathedral Centre on Iron Gate, where members of the support and information team will be on hand to talk to anyone who would benefit from their expertise and advice about end-of-life care, bereavement help or general information about the hospice.

Julie Waite, Support & Information Practitioner at Treetops Hospice said: “People come to us because they want to know about our services and they’re looking at ways in which Treetops can help them or their loved ones.”

Recent drop-in visitors include young couple Debbie and John. “Debbie has breast cancer and has been given a poor prognosis. They were both struggling emotionally and worrying about their finances.

“After a conversation over a cup of coffee, we worked out how we could support them both. Debbie is joining our SPRING Programme and exercise classes at the hospice. We also made John an appointment to see a Welfare Rights Officer and they’re both going to come back to the drop-in for ongoing support from both staff and volunteers.

“We can guarantee a warm welcome and a safe space in which to have open and honest conversations about how we can support you and your family.

The weekly drop-in runs from 10am-2pm and is free of charge.
