Report: Club Secretary Dave Kent drew favoured peg A20 which recently has had poor form, but his excellent performance on the day enabled him to bank 113-14 for a clear win.  Dave started on bomb and pellet to the island for two early fish, but really did the damage in the last two hours on pole from his right margin on luncheon meat and on catmeat fishing “two-plus—two” directly in front, which produced several carp to around 14 pounds.

Championship leader John Adamson on peg A15 was relieved to find that the snags that had recently plagued the peg had been removed, enabling his to fish his favoured method feeder cast tight to the island.  In the first two hours he caught over 50 pounds of carp (in size ranging from 3 to 6 pounds), then struggled until the final hour when the fish returned and he took fish to around 8 pounds to lift his weight to 84-02 to take second place.

On the opposite bank on peg B14, Dick Abbott secured third place and included 21-06 of skimmer bream (taken on pole and soft pellet) in his 63-15 total weight, made up by 6 carp for 42-09 taken on pole with pellet and corn.

Les Smedley (peg A8) caught steadily throughout much of the match on method feeder for his 62-05, but in spite of losing  several fish still managed to take fourth place to retain second place in the Championships, with Malc Munn’s 61-12 from peg B1 taking fifth place and Steve Welch is sixth with 49-00 from peg B20.

Dave Kent’s victory has moved him from fifth to third place in the Championships with Mick Lager and Keith White each dropping a place, so the top six after 13 of the 24 matches are: John Adamson 198, Les Smedley 181, Dave Kent 173, Mick Lager 172, Keith White 156, Dave Cotterill 136.

Match 14 is on Sunday 13 September on Grange Pond, then match 15 will be on Makins Lake Two on Sunday 20 September.
