John Adamson reports: A run of cold nights preceded the match, and once again anglers were faced with a bitterly cold, gusting and strong NW wind, and although at times the sky promised rain it thankfully remained dry for the duration of the match. Such conditions are not conducive to good sport, and many of the “sell-out field” struggled for bites on what proved to be a hard day.

Report (continued): The payout was to the top three individuals and then to two default sections (A bank + peg B1, and B bank).
The exception was Tony Lamb on peg A13, who managed to catch decent-sized carp steadily throughout the day for his winning 151-01, and a good payout. I understand that Tony caught on a bomb and “pellet-cone” cast just short of halfway to the island, leaving the anglers on either side, Shaun Weed (on A15) and Andy Findlay (on A11) way behind.
Second place on the day was John Adamson from peg A18, with 106-15 (all carp) taken on the method feeder. John was facing the cold wind which appeared to have moved the fish away from the top end of the lake, which normally produced fish “short”. Using a 28g Nisa Porky method feeder, John found a small clear spot among the snags caused by the bank collapse, and casting into that same spot managed to tempt the odd fish over the first 4 hours. In the fifth hour, he caught steadily before slowing over the final hour.
Shaun Weed on peg A15 had a strange day. He was fish-less after the first 4 hours before fish moved into his margin in the final 2 hours when he caught decent carp until the final whistle on the short pole and pellet for 83-12, which was just enough to push Andy Findlay (83-03 from A11) out of the main money. Andy caught mainly small carp on a method feeder cast (crosswind) towards the island, which proved sufficient for him to take the A section money.
The B bank generally fished much harder, and the battle to win the section proved to be between Matt Gaetto (peg B24) and Gaz Kitch (B17), both of whom fished mainly on the method feeder. In the end, it was Matt who came out on top with a catch of eight carp for a weight of 52-03, against Gaz’s 47-15 (which included several decent bream).

Next week’s match will be on Wednesday 24th April, as the Makins Fishery Three-Day Festival will not include Lake Two. There will be no match on Tuesday (which we thought may be a necessity).
