Report (continued): The weather, once again, was not in the slightest, pleasant.  Although a cold start after a night of heavy rain, the morning was bright and sunny, even though the strong S wind was bitterly cold.  Unfortunately, after the first hour, black clouds appeared, and the first of several bitterly cold rain and sleet showers commenced, setting a pattern for the rest of the day.

Despite the weather, there was again a decent turnout which should have been evenly split over the two lakes.  As there was an angler who failed to attend, Lake Three was one light.  His failure to inform me means he will be declined entry for the next month.  The payout was to the top three on each lake, with a £10 bonus to the overall winner.

Andy Findlay pulled a flier of a peg from the bag, peg 5 on Lake Four, and proceeded to do what we all expected, catching fish from the start on method feeder to end with 104-04 for both lake and overall wins.  The awful side and facing wind and weather failed to have any effect on his performance.  Amusingly I understand that a casual spectator informed him that he was “fishing it all wrong”.  I don’t believe “The Fin” took his advice.

On Lake Three, peg 10, Steve “Foggy” Foster had a relatively sheltered peg, and the wind from behind him enabled him to fish a pellet wager with relative ease throughout the day.  He caught decent carp intermittently throughout to put a fine 91-03 on the scales for a clear lake win (and second place overall).

The in-form Gaz Kitch drew peg 22 on Lake Four, the same area he has frequented for the past three weeks, and again using the method feeder managed to winkle out 87-14 to take second place on the lake and third overall.

Excepting the top three the rest of the field trailed well behind, with Andy Edgington’s fourth overall with 44-05 taking the final money for Lake Four (peg 7), his fish coming to the bomb and pellet early and pole short later, Baz Smithson in fifth place (taking the second prize for Lake Three) with a pole caught 42-11 from peg 8 despite facing the wind).  Seventh-placed Peter Stockwin’s 37-09 took the third-placed money from Lake Three (peg 12), Peter catching mainly on the method feeder.

Many thanks to John Lack for his assistance in weighing Lake Three, to Gaz Kitch, Andy Findlay and Phil Hunt for sorting Lake Four, and to Andy for the Lake Four photographs.

From next week the cut-off for paying entries will be 9 am, with the draw minutes later (as soon as I can sort the pegs), then fishing from 11 am to 5 pm.

Names will be required (18 peg limit during the cold weather).

NB.  Nisa Opens are held every Wednesday on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook "Nisa - midweek open matches" to book a place).
