Support for Ukranian refugees continues in Derbyshire

Work by Derbyshire County Council is continuing to support Ukrainian refugees.

Cabinet Members have agreed to share £2.160m received from the Government’s Homes for Ukraine scheme among local district and borough councils to help support Ukrainian guests.

Since the launch of the scheme, more than 1,700 Ukrainians have arrived in Derbyshire following the Russian invasion.

More than 1,400 Ukrainian guests remaining in Derbyshire with around 150 new arrivals each year.

Many live within 280 host households, with the remainder of guests living in rented properties.

The funding will be used for a range of different measures to support those in Derbyshire who have fled the war in Ukraine. Measures include supporting refugees to get jobs and move into private rented accommodation.

Councillor Dawn Abbott, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, said: “It’s important that we continue to receive and distribute funding to support Ukrainian guests who have experienced huge trauma and upheaval, supporting our commitment to create empowered communities where people live safe, happy, healthy and independent lives.

“I’d like to thank host households across the county for their continued support in providing safe and secure homes for those in need.”
