Burglar who repeatedly targeted Ilkeston home jailed for more than four years

A burglar who repeatedly targeted the same home in Ilkeston has been jailed for more than four years.

The victim received a call from a neighbour to say they had heard loud banging and that someone may be breaking into their home in Drummond Road, Ilkeston, on Saturday 15th November.

He attended the scene and chased the burglar down the street before making a citizen’s arrest on him in a nearby park before calling police.

Officers attended and arrested Mitchell Calladine on suspicion of burglary.

The victim recognised Calladine as the same man who he had chased out of his garden several days earlier.

The homeowner had also been made aware of a few other suspicious incidents at his property in the previous few days including a smashed window, and loud banging at the address.

Calladine initially gave a no comment interview to officers but later admitted targeting the property.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Lissett Avenue, Ilkeston, was charged with two counts of attempted burglary.

He admitted both offences and was jailed for four years and six months at Nottingham Crown Court on Monday 8th December.

Detective Sergeant Louise Munday, of the Neighbourhood Acquisitive Crime Team, which investigated the case, said: “Calladine repeatedly targeted the same house causing misery for the victim and we are pleased to see that he has now been taken off our streets for a very long time.

“I would like to pay tribute to the victim for their cooperation throughout the investigation in helping to secure a conviction for this offence.  

“Burglary and attempted burglary is a serious crime that can have a lasting effect on victims, which is why we have a dedicated team working around the clock here in Derbyshire to ensure the criminals insistent on doing this are brought to justice.”
