Education institutions reflect on ‘outstanding’ GCSE success

Marketing Derby Bondholders involved in the education sector have been reflecting on ‘outstanding’ GCSE results achieved by their pupils.

Last week, teenagers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their results.

Nationally, pass rates fell – but Derby College Group, Repton School and Derby High School bucked the trend.

At Derby College Group, its GCSE+ programme once again gave students the chance to strengthen their GCSE profile and open doors to Level 3 study, including A levels, T Levels and vocational pathways.

This year, its 154 GCSE+ students achieved a 100% pass rate.

The cohort studied a blend of core subjects, such as English Language, Maths and Combined Science, alongside a range of specialist options including English Literature, History, Media Studies and Business Studies.

Debbie Painter, curriculum manager for the GCSE+ programme, said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved.

“Many have faced real challenges along the way, so to see them succeed, grow in confidence and strengthen their academic skills is truly inspiring.”

Repton School has been celebrating exceptional GCSE results, with 18% of grades at 9 and 56% at 9–7.

Highlights include two pupils topping the nation in Fine Art and five achieving nine grade 9s.

Headmaster Mark Semmence said: “These results represent far more than numbers on a page; they are the outcome of three years of sustained effort, perseverance and dedication.

“We are immensely proud of all our pupils for what they have achieved and for the way in which they have approached their studies.

“Their success is also a testament to the professionalism and commitment of our staff, who continually inspire and support our pupils to fulfil their potential.”

Finally, Derby High School has been reflecting on  a superb set of GCSE results.

Over half of all grades awarded were at grade 7 and above (equivalent to A and A*), with an impressive one third of all grades at grade 8 or higher (A*).

Many students will now continue their journey in Derby High’s Sixth Form, where they will build on this success as they prepare for A Levels and beyond.

The grades have been achieved alongside an impressive array of co-curricular commitments.

This year’s cohort has completed Duke of Edinburgh Awards, gained Associated Board music and LAMDA qualifications, and represented the school and region in numerous sports and music ensembles.

Head Amy Chapman said: “We are incredibly proud of our students and the fantastic results they have achieved.

“Their resilience, determination and commitment have been truly inspiring.

“These results give them the best possible foundation for the future, and we are excited to see all that they will go on to accomplish.”
