In September 2025, Adam Thompson MP will walk the length of Erewash to raise money for the installation of emergency bleed control kits in Ilkeston.

Like defibrillators, bleed control kits can be fitted in public places to act fast and save lives. Following a series of high-profile violent incidents, the goal is to get a bleed kit in or near every one of Ilkeston’s town centre pubs.

The fundraiser is already live on a GoFundMe page, and a number of local businesses have pledged to support the campaign.

Erewash Borough Council have also agreed to purchase and install more than ten of these vital bleed kits. The more money that can be raised, the more kits that can be purchased and hopefully more lives saved.

Adam’s walk will see him trek from the bottom of Sawley all the way to the very top of Cotmanhay – covering 13 miles as he goes through both town centres and the villages.

This campaign follows a meeting with senior officers from Derbyshire Police on Ilkeston market place, and the launch of a petition to improve safety measures on the market and Bath Street.

Adam said: “With fast action, bleed kits in public places can save lives just like defibrillators, which people are already familiar with. I hope we can raise enough money to fit as many town centre pubs and locations with bleed kits as possible.

"I’m thankful to the businesses that have already made donations, and I’m looking forward to raising awareness through my walk across Erewash next month.”
