Police officers act in Long Eaton as part of Operation Sceptre

Police officers from the Erewash Crime Action Group have stopped a vehicle in Long Eaton which was believed to be involved in criminal activity.

The action was taken on 16th May at an undisclosed location in the town and as part of Operation Sceptre week.

Two knives were found in the vehicle, along with a quantity of Cannabis, which was subsequently seized.   The male driver was arrested and has been bailed whilst officers conduct further enquiries.

PC Ramshaw from the Crime Action Group said: "We are continuing to work hard to target drug supply, crime and anti-social behaviour associated with keeping our communities safe."

Operation Sceptre is an annual nationally led campaign in which there is a particular focus on taking against knife crime, in a number of ways, from direct enforcement, to offering advice about knife crime and crime prevention at many local community locations.  

The region has also seen the siting of knife amnesty bins with those holding unwanted items able to hand them in, whether that be those that are old and now unused or that was legal to own privately, but, under the updated Offensive Weapons Act, this is no longer the case.  

Any knives handed in will be safely disposed of and could prevent them getting into the wrong hands.
