REPORT: Another excellent turnout and once again the weather was superb – warm and sunny – despite the chilly start.  As usual, we paid out the overall winner and (default) the top two weights on each bank.

The injection of fish earlier in the week has certainly stirred things up, and in the bright sunshine there were shoals of fish, mainly swimming at speed, showing all around the lake.  Unfortunately, they mainly appeared to be enjoying the sun and, accepting a few instances, generally showed no interest in feeding.

One of the exceptions was in the early pegs on the A bank, where last week’s winner, Andy Edgington, sat this week on B8, and enjoyed a wonderful day’s sport.  Andy started on the maggot feeder and caught carp while feeding his margins with groundbait and a few maggots.  During the latter stages of the match the fish moved onto his feed and he caught decent carp in quick succession to rack up a weight of 184-09 for a clear win.

On peg B3, on spotting the shoals of carp moving near the surface, Dave Henry started on the pellet waggler, and by casting towards the shoals soon managed to “pick off” the odd fish.  As the day progressed his catch rate increased, but when the wind dropped with two hours to go the fish ceased to feed and he only managed a couple more before the end.  His weight of 92-05 was second overall and clearly won the B bank pool.

Alan Robertshaw (A6) caught most of his fish on the method feeder, with groundbait and maggot bait.  He ended with 54-14, third overall and winner of the A bank pool.

Back on the B bank on peg B11, Stuart Gould set out to catch bream – but they failed to feed.  He managed a couple of carp on the maggot feeder, added more on the method feeder, finishing with two from his margin on maggot bait (plus several roach) to end with 43-02 for fourth overall and second on the B bank, just edging John Lack (peg A15 with 41-15) into fifth place.  John persevered on his favourite bomb and pellet, fished threequarters over, for several decent carp.

Gaz Kitch (B13) was sixth with 33-14, caught on the maggot feeder early and method feeder later on.

Many thanks to Dave Henry for his valiant weight lifting throughout the weigh-in, and to everyone else who assisted.

I just hope the weather holds for next week….

Nisa Opens are held most Wednesdays on Lake Two at Makins Fishery (see Facebook “Nisa – midweek open matches” to book a place).
