Police officers from Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team have taken action after an alert was flagged up on the Derbyshire Police ANPR (automatic numberplate recognition) system for potentially being involved in crime.

The swoop was carried out on Tuesday 31st March when the van was brought to a stop on Station Road, Sandiacre. Checks showed that the driver was found to have no driving licence and no insurance, and, as a result, the vehicle was seized under 165 of the Road Traffic Act.

The driver was subsequently summoned to court for driving offences and, as they were not the registered keeper of the vehicle, they will not get the van back.

A statement from Derbyshire Police said:
ANPR – Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras instantly detect, deter, and disrupt criminal activity by reading vehicle registration marks (VRMs) and matching them against databases of interest.”
