Community groups awarded nearly £228k in funding

Erewash Borough Council has provided £227,955 in the first round of a new grant scheme, targeted at voluntary and community groups in the borough.

In recognition of the fantastic work done by organisations in Erewash, the council set up Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) Sustainability and Activation grants, which allowed local groups to apply for between £5,000 to £50,000 so they can set their sights on bigger projects.

The projects that have been granted funding include Insight Community Project Youth Clubs, Home Start Erewash (which provides support for children and families), Kirk Hallam Community Centre, and The Canaan Trust – a homelessness prevention charity who also run a community food bank.

The grant scheme has also supported the Glow Music and Art Festivals for 2026 and 2027. The festival has become an annual staple in the community.

Lead Member for Community Engagement at Erewash Borough Council, Councillor Becca Everett said: “The aim of the grant scheme was to see local community groups and charities continue to succeed and provide worthwhile support to residents across Erewash.

“The difference our other grant schemes have made to organisations based in our borough has been clear, and we’re glad we can offer these larger grants using the Erewash Investment Fund to help exciting projects get started or keep going where they’re needed.”

The grants can be used to support organisations with day-to-day running costs, to deliver an innovative new project, or both.
