Police officers in Ilkeston are appealing for video footage to help tackle the issue of anti-social driving in the town.

A Problem Management Plan has been put into place after reports were received about groups of cars being driven in an anti-social manner on several occasions on Chalons Way throughout August.

Work will be carried out with Erewash Borough Council and the Community Safety Partnership with a Public Spaces Protection Order being implemented in the town which gives authorities powers to crack down on anti-social behaviour.

Automatic number plate recognition technology will be used to identify those responsible but there is also a need for help from the public to tackle the issue.

Inspector Rachel Fowkes said: “We understand the impact that anti-social behaviour and driving like this, has on our community. We are committed to doing all that we can to tackle it.

“To do this, we will be working closely with the [borough] council so that we can join forces and take advantage of options at our disposal.

“But we need the help of the local community as well, so, if you see any anti-social driving like this, please contact us and let us know.

“I know a lot of people have been in touch with us over the last few weeks to tell us about when this has been happening and I’m really grateful to all of them.”

Councillor Becca Everett, Lead Member for Communities at Erewash Borough Council added; “The council has been in continual discussions with Derbyshire police regarding this behaviour.

“The council took positive action last year and as a result approved a Public Spaces Protection Order which came into effect in June 2025.

“This appeared to have had a positive impact until a few weeks ago, where we have seen repeated calls regarding this. The teams are reviewing local footage to identify offenders where possible, but we need local residents to support this process.”

Anyone with any dashcam, CCTV or other video footage from August 2nd, 16th, 30th and 31st that could help with investigations is being asked to contact Derbyshire Police via non-emergency contact routes.
