Tributes paid to ‘special son’ and ‘delightful young man’ who died in Draycott collision

The family and friends of a young man who died in a collision in Draycott have paid tribute to a ‘one of a kind, delightful young man.’

George Barton died following a collision in Derby Road at around 8.15pm on Sunday 6th September.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and died the following morning.

The 22-year-old grew up in Ockbrook and loved being outside and helping on the family farm.

George’s parents Richard and Samantha said: “I know everyone thinks their son is special but George truly was.

“He lit up our lives with his dry humour, his love of a good Chinese meal, and he never left the house or ended a phone call or text without saying ‘I love you’.”

George was hugely popular with many friends and they have also been paying tribute to him, saying how ‘incredibly lucky they were to have George as a friend’.

They added: ‘he was deeply loved by the people around him and he made a much bigger impact on their lives than he realised.’

He has also been described as someone with a ‘way of making people feel comfortable, valued and understood’, and a man who ‘brought so much happiness, kindness and laughter into the lives of everyone who knew him.

‘A one of a kind, George could lift anyone’s mood, he was a really loyal friend and would always be there for others,’ tributes have said.

He was sweet, polite, funny and caring, the kindest purest soul who was loved by so many people he didn’t even realise.

‘George was stubborn but a bundle of joy. He was deeply loved by the people around him and he was happiest outside, whether that be mending, breaking or building stuff.

‘He went on many random walks with his friends who said he was an amazing lad, and a credit to his parents.’

Richard and Samantha added: “George was growing into a delightful young man whose life was tragically cut short.

“He has left a massive hole in our hearts and the hearts of those who knew him. Our lives will never be the same again.”
