Man jailed after stabbing man with zombie knife in broad daylight

A man has been jailed after he attacked a man with a zombie knife in broad daylight in an Ilkeston street.

Luke Hurdowar pulled up in a car alongside the victim, who was known to him, in Cotmanhay Road just after noon on 26 June this year.

The pair began arguing and after the victim threw punches at Hurdowar, he stepped back and pulled a 30cm zombie knife from the waistband of his trousers and lunged at the victim.

He then stabbed the man twice, leaving him to collapse on the pavement while bleeding heavily, before getting back into his car and driving away.

The victim was hospitalised following the attack.

A short while later, Hurdowar was seen travelling in the same car nearby and attempted to run away from officers. He was successfully detained with the help of PD Ultor and handler and arrested.

The 23-year-old of no fixed address was charged and remanded the following day.

He later admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and possession of a bladed article.

The 23-year-old appeared at Derby Crown Court on 2nd September and was jailed for three years and nine months.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Danielle Causer said: “This was a brazen attack in the middle of the day on a summer afternoon.

“Although it was a targeted assault there were members of the public nearby at the time, including children.

“No-one should be made to feel that the streets they walk on with their children are unsafe and Hurdowar showed complete disregard for anyone else that day.

“Had there not been people around to come to the victim’s aid in the immediate aftermath of this incident, the outcome could have been very different.

“The effects of knife crime are felt far beyond the immediate victims, and we remain committed to tackling those who carry knives.”
