Officers from the Amber Valley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team were carrying out proactive patrols in the Heanor area when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in the town centre. The vehicle initially evaded officers.

Other officers from the team joined the search and quickly located the vehicle across the border in Cotmanhay.

When officers activated their blue lights behind the vehicle, it failed to stop. Another police vehicle was positioned at the other end of the street and, in an attempt to get away, the driver mounted the pavement before the vehicle ultimately became wedged between a parked car and a wall.

Officers recovered a large quantity of suspected Class A and Class B drugs, along with cash and multiple mobile phones.

A 25-year-old man from Nottinghamshire was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.

PC Mitchell, who is leading the investigation, said: “When a driver makes the decision not to stop for police, they risk serious consequences for themselves and everyone else using the road. Thankfully, this incident was brought to a quick conclusion, and no one was injured.”

“A significant quantity of suspected drugs was also recovered from the vehicle. We will continue working proactively to disrupt those who seek to use our roads to facilitate criminality.”

“Crime does not stop at the border, and neither do we. Working alongside our colleagues in neighbouring policing areas allows us to share intelligence, target offenders and make it increasingly difficult for criminals to use our roads and communities for their activities.”

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who was travelling in the area at the time, to get in touch.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:00pm on Wednesday 7th October 2026 in the Bridge Street area of Cotmanhay, and are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage that captured the vehicle either before or during the incident.
