Stop leads to arrest and drug seizure

Police officers from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Team have partnered with those from Ilkeston as well as the Erewash Local Policing Unit to stop a vehicle across the border in Stapleford.

The action came after information was received that it was being used to supply drugs in the area.

Upon bringing the vehicle to a stop, a search led to a quantity of Class A drugs were found and recovered, deemed to be consistent with supply.

A 65-year-old male was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possession of a Class A substance with intent to supply and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of specified controlled drug above the specified limit. The male has since been released on bail whilst the investigation continues.

Operation Drever was set up in August 2026 as a targeted and proactive approach to tackling cross-border criminality effecting the communities of Erewash.

During the operation, Police officers are working closely with neighbouring forces, in particular Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire as well as partner agencies to take a holistic approach to tackling the issues cross-border criminality has on the local communities.

PC Ramshaw, from Long Eaton SNT, who oversees the operation has said: “Criminals don’t stick by regional borders and carry out their criminality in one location. They move between areas and target vulnerable people within those communities. It is only right that we as police take a similar approach when it comes to tackling these individuals and groups who come into Erewash from further afield to commit criminality hence why we are working closely with our colleagues from Notts and Leicestershire, local authorities, and local stakeholders to tackle the issue.
