It’s Talk Money Week from 2nd to 6th November –  an opportunity for everyone in the UK to start a conversation about their finances.

Derbyshire County Council is encouraging everyone to take part and talk about money.

This year’s theme is It All Counts – focusing on realistic, manageable actions that we can all take to help manage our finances.

Many people across the UK are feeling under pressure when it comes to their finances, often for reasons beyond their control.

But when it comes to money, actions of all sizes can make a meaningful difference.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Safety, Councillor Dan Price said: “Worries about money affect most people at some point and Talk Money Week is the perfect time to find out what support is on offer.

“Here in Derbyshire we have advice and services on hand including information about your local credit unions and community banks.

“There’s also advice on how to protect yourself and your loved ones from fraud and scams as well as tips around energy saving and switching providers to get a better deal.”

£1,000s of benefits go underclaimed in Derbyshire – find out if you may be entitled to Pension Credit, help with council tax, or extra help for low-income families such as Free School Meals and Healthy Start Vouchers.

With the current cost-of-living pressures, getting support for money worries is more important than ever.

Research shows that people who talk about money:

  • make better and less risky financial decisions
  • have stronger personal relationships
  • help their children form good lifetime money habits
  • feel less stressed or anxious and more in control.

Talking about money can help build financial confidence and resilience to face financial problems in the future.

Whether it’s speaking to a lender before repayments become a problem, checking if you’re entitled to benefits you haven’t claimed, or starting a conversation about a money worry with someone you trust – It All Counts.
