£20,000 Anti-Graffiti Action Plan launched!

Erewash Borough Council are investing £20,000 from the Erewash Investment Fund to take action against graffiti - including the development of an Anti-Graffiti Action Plan.

The project is funded by the £2million Erewash Investment Fund which is designed to invest in the future of our borough and to revitalise public services. An initial £700,000 has been dedicated to the fund as part of phase one to invest in the community. This will support the council to upgrade street furniture, increase the capacity of the Neighbourhood Warden service and more.

The council are also using the fund to be proactive against unsightly vandalism with a new anti-graffiti action plan. The council will work closely with property owners and support the removal of graffiti across the borough, stepping in to help remove or paint over the reported vandalism where possible.

Recognising that local businesses and community groups are victims of this unsightly vandalism, Erewash Borough Council are introducing graffiti removal kits to enable swift action in cleaning affected areas.

Distributing the graffiti removal kits to organisations will enable rapid action as they are likely to know their buildings well and can act quickly, making the process cost and time efficient.

If any residents or businesses across the Borough are interested in obtaining a free graffiti removal kit, they should visit www.fixmystreet.com to log their request using the ‘graffiti’ section. The request must contain a photo of the graffiti so that the most suitable products can be determined. This report will then be sent to the council’s Neighbourhood Services team who will assess and respond to the request as soon as possible, providing the appropriate kit if it is required.

Cllr Curtis Howard who is Lead Member for Town Centres, Regeneration and Planning said: “After some recent notable incidents concerning graffiti in our town centres, we’re taking action - thanks to the Erewash Investment Fund, we’re investing £20,000 to develop an Anti-Graffiti Action Plan and purchase graffiti kits. This is a long-term commitment to combat vandalism, work with local businesses and community groups, and do right by Ilkeston and Long Eaton.”
