Erewash Borough Council officials have told local residents to get ready to see even cleaner street in both Ilkeston and Long Eaton.
A statement said that they were "thrilled" to a significant investment of £210,000 from the Erewash Investment Fund specifically dedicated to enhancing street cleaning efforts in both town centres.
Funding described as "significant" means the authority will be welcoming two new operatives to their street cleansing team who are expected to be a huge help with a range of duties that keep communities looking their best, including maintaining public toilets, emptying litter bins, clearing rubbish, and quickly responding to any street cleaning requests residents might have.
Cllr Mark Alfrey, Lead Member for Environment, said: "Having recently met with business owners to discuss both high streets, feedback was overwhelmingly in favour of increasing street cleaning capacity and attendance. We understand that tidy streets are a priority for our residents. By improving the capacity of our street cleaning team, we can ensure the borough remains an attractive and safe place to live, work, and visit – which is part of the aim of the Erewash Investment Fund."
This initiative is just one part of the larger Erewash Investment Fund, a £2 million initiative designed to build a stronger, safer, and more vibrant future for our communities.
Erewash Borough Council initially dedicated £700,000 in phase one to kickstart these vital projects. Beyond cleaner streets, the fund will also help increase the capacity of the council’s Neighbourhood Warden team, clean-up unsightly graffiti, fund new street furniture for Ilkeston town centre, secure the Cotmanhay Community Network for the next three years, and much more.
