Officials from the Long Eaton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued a statement after a period in which multiple reports have been received detailing the illegal use of E-scooters in the local area.
A statement posted on social media said that officers have taken action in many areas including Borrowash, Draycott, Petersham and Sandiacre, and added that anti-social behaviour and Community safety is a priority for the force and Police and Crime Commissioner, stressing that patrols will continue to seize any E-scooters that are being used unlawfully.
Although widely available to buy, E-scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles, so are treated as motor vehicles and are subject to the same requirements, such as MOTs, licencing, tax and insurance. They can therefore only be ridden on private land and NOT on public highways.
