Derbyshire County Council has gained a silver award in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The county council is proud to have achieved this recognition of its support for armed forces personnel past and present, and their families.

In order to be given the silver award, the council had to demonstrate positive policies toward services personnel and the armed forces community in areas like recruitment, training, and support for armed forces reserves to take part in essential training.

The council has also signed the Armed Forces Covenant, promising that people who serve – or have served – and their families, are treated fairly.

Councillor David Wilson, Civic Chairman of Derbyshire County Council and Armed Forces Champion, said: “It’s wonderful to receive this recognition of the commitment we have made to our service men and women and their families. We’re very proud.”

The award ceremony will be held at the International Bomber Command Centre, near Lincoln on Thursday 13th October.
