There is a warning that public services in Erewash are reaching breaking point. It is due to an influx of hundreds of asylum seekers staying in local hotels.
Around 400 people, all of whom are understood to have crossed the channel in small boats have been housed in two hotels in the area whilst their asylum claims are processed.
Speaking in the Commons, the Conservative MP for Erewash, Maggie Throup said that local GPs and Police were deeply concerned, and that services were being strained whilst around 400 people in two hotels waited for their asylum clams to be processed. She has called for the Government to take action. The Prime Minster Rishi Sunak has said that he is committed to cracking down on immigration.
