At the heart of the day was the Reverse Jobs Fair, where Supported Internship students led conversations with employers, sharing their skills, ambitions and readiness for paid roles. This innovative format placed students at the centre of the recruitment experience, allowing employers to see first-hand the value and potential they bring.
Inspiring voices and lived experience

The event was opened by Emma Barker, a Miss Derbyshire finalist and PhD researcher specialising in autism and post-diagnostic support.

Emma said: “Inclusion is not just about access, it is about feeling understood and valued. When we create spaces where people can be themselves and be recognised for their strengths, we open the door to real opportunity.”

Her contribution reflected the wider aim of the Showcase, highlighting lived experience and the importance of creating workplaces where everyone can belong.

Amy Bacon, Supported Internship and Work Experience Lead at Derby College Group, said: “Our students are talented, motivated and ready to work, they simply need the opportunity. The Reverse Jobs Fair allows employers to see that potential directly, while giving students the confidence to present themselves and their abilities.”

Alex, a Supported Internship Learning Support Assistant, added: “This has really helped me build my confidence. Speaking to employers directly made me realise what I am capable of and what I can achieve.”
