East Midlands Airport comes aboard to help veterans' charity

A charity has described an exciting new partnership with East Midlands Airport as "a total game changer" for the organisation and the veterans it supports.

Thanks to the efforts of the airport's Capital Delivery Projects Team, Forces Veterans Afloat will receive hands-on help to restore boats faster, get veterans housed quicker, and take a massive leap forward toward building our very own boatyard.

Airport volunteers are getting ready to roll up their sleeves – and help with everything from painting and repairs to getting donated boats ready for veterans to live in. Additionally, the team is also reaching out to their own supply chain to see how even more people can get involved in helping to create a dedicated site to fix up and launch homes for veterans who need a fresh start. There are also plans for East Midlands Airport to “adopt” the boat they help restore and sponsor it once it is on the water.

Chair of Trustees at Forces Veterans Afloat, Lizzie Lane said: “This partnership is a huge moment for us. “Having the East Midlands Airport team on board gives us the extra muscle and momentum we need to grow faster and help more veterans, right when they need it most. We couldn’t be more excited.”

Guy Slack MIET, Programme Delivery Manager at East Midlands Airport, said: “We’re really proud to support Forces Veterans Afloat as part of our Volunteering and Community Support Programme. It’s such a brilliant initiative – led by veterans, for veterans – and we’re happy to be putting our time and skills into something that makes a real difference. From hands-on work to helping with the big infrastructure plans, we’re all in!”
